 Speech Language Pathology Services
Texas Woman's University (TWU) TETN SLP Master's Degree Program

In an effort to address the ongoing shortage of master's level speech-language pathologists in the schools, a partnership was formed among the Education Service Centers of Texas, Texas Woman's University, the Texas Education Agency and local educational entities to provide a master's degree program for both in-field and out-of-field students.  This program, fully accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), utilizes a combination of videoconferencing and web-based instruction as well as clinical experiences on school campuses, in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, rehabilitation centers and special summer camps.  Successful completion of the program prepares graduates to apply for Texas licensure in speech pathology and for ASHA certification. Candidates who do not wish to work in Texas schools are not eligible for admission to this program.

Cycle 10 Begins

The Cycle 10 graduate program will begin in 2019 and run through 2021.  Participants interested in applying to the SLP Master’s Degree Program – Distance Learning Venue – MUST attend one full information meeting (entire scheduled time).  Registrants will learn detailed program information and the specific TWU criteria required for the application process.  Individuals who do not already have a bachelor’s degree in the speech/communication field are required to take “leveling” course work.  This information will be discussed in detail at the meetings.

Bilingual certification:  Attendees interested in a bilingual certificate in addition to their master’s degree in the field will have an opportunity to learn more about the bilingual certificate requirements.   The purpose is to better serve children receiving speech therapy services in a language other than English.

Master’s degree program applications:  Due in the fall 2018; graduate classes begin summer 2019.

Leveling course work:  TWU will offer a leveling program in summer 2018 – APPLICATION DEADLINE – April 15, 2018.   The usual program applications are accepted each year between August 15 and October 1 for leveling classes beginning the following spring semester.  Completing the leveling course work does not guarantee admission into the master’s degree program.

Information meetings will be held on the following dates. Registration is required for packet materials.
